Imagine getting your coffee fix in the morning without turning on the coffee machine. Well, I’m here to tell you it’s possible. Not only does your bathroom fill with the heavenly smell of sweet coffee, you get to rub it all over you body. I know, how much fun!!
I have been meaning to share more beauty tips/articles since I have received great feedback from my coconut oil cleansing post. I am eager to continue broadening my knowledge in natural beauty and to share my experience along the way. So here we go, the first of many DIY natural beauty recipes.
Coconut Coffee Sugar Scrub
This is a really fun and easy natural recipe. I mean, who doesn’t love coconut (obsessed), coffee (definitely), and sugar (coconut sugar of course). I feel I do have to mention that NO you can’t eat this. When I think about this scrub I envision a bathroom full of candles, a warm bubble bath and possibly a glass of wine haha. It’s definitely all about setting the scene.
For me, scrubs are a very luxurious treat that I never made time for. Now that I have this delicious coffee scrub I’m making time each week, usually a Sunday, to pamper myself. Think of it as part of your preparation for the new week ahead.
The other day I was chatting to one of my friends and she mentioned she has never had a massage or a facial because it felt too much like a luxury and a treat. This got me thinking. Why don’t we spend time investing in ourselves? If we take care to regularly feed our body and our soul we are much better equipped to face the challenges of the day.
By the way, if you want an amazing facial and you live in Auckland you have to check out Ashleigh Scott. She’s one of a kind!).
So even if you’re new to pampering yourself or you just want to start taking control of the products that you put on your skin, have a go at making this scrub. You’ll soon realize just how special it can make you feel. I love how it connects you back to your food and to what you’re putting on and in your body.
I’m going to set a scene for you? Now, shut your eyes and imagine you are rubbing coffee over any areas of cellulite that you have on your body. Now envision that cellulite disappearing and hopefully never to be seen again.
Basically, this is what happens when we mix coffee and cellulite, as coffee tightens the skin and improves the tone, making it cellulites worst nightmare. This is one of the reasons why I chose to make coffee the base of my scrub, plus it doesn’t hurt that it smells amazing, am I right?
You may be wondering how I gathered my coffee for the scrub. Well, it was simply by having a container next to my coffee machine that I filled with any left over unused ground coffee beans. It took only a few weeks to get enough to make my scrub.
I decided to go with coconut sugar for two reasons, the first being that this is a health blog and I can’t go around promoting white sugar, and secondly because coconut sugar was all I had in my pantry at the time.
Coconut sugar acts as a natural exfoliant, and together with the coffee helps to remove any dead skin cells as well as firming and toning the skin. You can use any type of sugar that you have on hand but I like the idea of the coconut sugar, plus it smells absolutely amazing.
I use coconut oil where-ever I can, so obviously when I was developing this recipe I had to use it as the base. The oil acts as a binder and helps to spread the coffee and sugar onto your body. Coconut oil is also very moisturizing and soothing for the skin. Once you wash it off you are left with very soft smooth skin that smells like a tropical island. I mean really, what more could you want?
You can use any coconut oil for the scrub, but as you know I have my favourite… Indah Coconut Oil.
This is an optional extra that I definitely recommend adding.
Grapefruit, too, targets cellulite as it’s anti-inflammatory and helps to break down cellulite and fat (definitely now eating more of this fruit) I also love the smell grapefruit brings to this scrub, so invigorating and fresh.
This is the first DIY body scrub that I have made and my skin has never looked better. I am in love with this scrub … I hope you love it too!
Take the time this week and schedule in a little pamper…a little you time. It’s so important to fit these things in and to re charge our batteries in this very busy world.
